Summary:
This week on Heritage Bible Radio, Pastor Jim Harris will take us into the book of James, chapter 4. We will look at just 6 verses, but as counselees have been told on many occasions when Christians are struggling in their relationships with other Christians, where the rubber meets the road is revealed in this passage. The opening question is “What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you?”
We believe that if we ever let the application of this passage take deep root in our lives, we would experience confession and forgiveness, brotherly love and peace in the church like we never have before. But we tend to pass over this passage without letting its personal application really take root. And that brings to mind something else James taught in this letter: when we fail to see ourselves as we really are, we are like the man who looks at himself in the mirror for a moment but immediately forgets what he saw there, what kind of person he truly is. We hope this week’s message will have the impact on your life it deserves. Here’s today’s piece of the message entitled Worldliness.

1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
4 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”
