This week on Heritage Bible Radio, we are completing our lesson in James 3, as we dig into verses 13-18. Last week we looked at the power and Godly discipline of the tongue, the things that we say. And as Pastor Harris offers some concluding remarks about that, it will naturally lead us to this week’s topic: exercising wisdom. How you speak will demonstrate something about your wisdom, or lack thereof, and scripture often juxtaposes wisdom and foolishness. We can find this repeatedly in Proverbs, for example.
So, we’ll just pose these questions to you: Are you wise by the Biblical standard? How would you know?
Our passage will offer some additional criteria for determining if being wise will characterize you. We will also reveal that wisdom has two faces: one is the wisdom of the world, the other is the Godly wisdom that scripture admonishes Christians to seek and to exercise. What characterizes each type? Find out this week by following along each day.

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
